# Run your first colony

> From a blank workspace to a colony doing real work.

This walks through the path most people take on day one: pick a proven playbook, let a
colony run it, and step in where it asks.

    A new workspace opens a walkthrough offering proven playbooks — **Lead Generation**
    and **Outbound BDR** among them. Pick one and OpenHive creates a colony already
    configured to run it.

    Starting from a playbook beats starting from a prompt because the playbook already
    encodes the sequence: source candidates, score them, enrich contacts, then reach out.

  <Step title="Agree on who you're targeting">
    The colony's first move is to establish the target. Expect it to come back with a
    definition of the segment and ask you to confirm it before spending effort on
    sourcing.

    This is the highest-leverage moment in the run — everything downstream inherits this
    decision, so read it properly rather than waving it through.

  <Step title="Let it source and score">
    The colony pulls candidate companies from data sources and ranks them by fit against
    the target you agreed on. You'll get a list back, ordered, with the reasoning
    available.

  <Step title="Review enrichment">
    Agents enrich the accepted candidates with contact details — emails and LinkedIn
    profiles. Records land in the [CRM](/guides/crm) as they're confirmed.

  <Step title="Approve outreach before it sends">
    Drafted outreach is shown to you before anything goes out, and a campaign asks
    **Launch this campaign?** rather than sending on its own.

      campaign. Sending too fast is the most common way to get an account flagged.
